F - Family Excerpt from The Hyde, chapter titled “Family”, page 40. First and second paragraph. Hyde explains why he’s kept us in the dark about his family. As for my family, I never planned to talk about them (laugh). And I don’t plan to in future either. So, I thought I would talk about “why I have no intention of talking [about them]” in this section. When I read other people’s interviews and they talk about their families, I can imagine that person’s background and because it is about someone else, it is interesting and I get that, so I don’t dislike it. You get to see another side of that person and you feel as if that person is rather sweet, as well as feeling as if you are getting a little closer to that person and when you receive that sort of good impression, it also makes you feel as if you are waking from a dream and coming back to reality. Something like, “Ah, and I thought he was a prince.” Well, for better or worse, more than just seeing various aspects of that person, perhaps you get to see a deeper part of that person. However, on the other hand, though it’s none of my business, I think, “That person is talking about things so frankly, is it really all right to say all this without first checking [with the people involved]?”. Because if you look at it from the point of view of the person being spoken about, it seems as if you are announcing things just as you please.* Although it depends on the content, if it was me I wouldn’t want to be talked about. Keeping that in mind, as for my family, we not only have a future as a family but each of us may have our own policy [on these matters], so I don’t think it is a good thing to speak irresponsibly. That’s why I’ve decided that I will not talk about them from now on too. *This line was so hard to translate accurately. First and second paragraph. Hyde explains why he’s kept us in the dark about his family.

As for my family, I never planned to talk about them (laugh). And I don’t plan to in future either. So, I thought I would talk about “why I have no intention of talking [about them]” in this section.

ひとりごと (take to my self) || with English translation Excerpt from The Hyde, page 50. ひとりごと (take to my self) 僕のことは誰も知らない No one knows anything about me Like how I know nothing about you, and do not want to know 誰も知らない道 A path that no one knows 知らない街 An unknown place 知らない明日 An unknown tomorrow うつむいたまま歩いたら If you walk with your head hanging down You’ll be able to reach somewhere unknown And just when you’re about to stop, like a dead shark* 死なないように歩く Walk as if you will not die** 足跡がつかなくて振り向いても As I have left no footsteps, even if I turn back around I do not know where I’ve come from ひとりごとをいう Is what I say to myself Everything I say is to myself It’s all right if you don’t listen to me 知らなくてもいいよ It’s all right if you don’t care*** どうでもいいことなんだから**** None of it really matters anyway (self portrait no. 7) *He… likes fish doesn’t he? LOL. ** This line is more literally, ‘don’t die and keep walking” but that sounds pretty awful. *** This line could also mean “It’s all right if you don’t know what I’m saying” but I think in this context this fits better. **** I made a mistake with this line, credit to http://pinkarat.tumblr.com/ for noticing! I totally read this line as “どうでも,いいことなんだから” rather than “どうでもいいこと,なんだから” which I thought was weird and totally didn’t consider he was saying a very common phrase instead, lol. The meaning was completely different. I’m sorry everyone! But it’s fixed now <3 (the “take to myself” is all from the original. I suspect he meant talk but perhaps take has a special meaning here, who knows.)

ひとりごと (take to my self) || with English translation

Excerpt from The Hyde, page 50.

ひとりごと (take to my self)

No one knows anything about me

Like how I know nothing about you, and do not want to know

A path that no one knows

An unknown place

An unknown tomorrow

If you walk with your head hanging down

You’ll be able to reach somewhere unknown

And just when you’re about to stop, like a dead shark*

Walk as if you will not die**

As I have left no footsteps, even if I turn back around

I do not know where I’ve come from

Is what I say to myself

Everything I say is to myself

It’s all right if you don’t listen to me

It’s all right if you don’t care***

None of it really matters anyway

(self portrait no. 7)

*He… likes fish doesn’t he? LOL.

** This line is more literally, ‘don’t die and keep walking” but that sounds pretty awful.

*** This line could also mean “It’s all right if you don’t know what I’m saying” but I think in this context this fits better.
